What is it?

The Sand Safari Arts Festival is an impressive lineup of larger than life sand sculptures positioned along the beach in Surfers Paradise. These 17 days of fun will require 270 tonnes of sand for the sculptures to be brought to life, skillfully crafted into huge art installations in line with a fairy tale classic theme.

You can watch sculptors at work, enjoy live entertainment and shows, and interactive workshops. Perfect for all ages, this is a visually spectacular event guaranteed to impress. 15 professional sculptors will go head to head and battle it out to take home the winning title with the triumphant entrant announced on the 16th February at 5:30pm.

You can have your say with a gold coin donation giving you an entry into the People’s Choice competition, with the most popular sand sculpture installation as voted by the public being announced on the 29th of February.

The Harp of the City

There will be a huge carved wooden instrumental harps available for the public to try their hand at, placed along the beachfront amongst the sand art installations. Created by artists Joseph Burgess and Joshua Wilkinson, these are as beautiful to behold as they are inviting to play, and each has its own special design and sound.

Migration Soldier Crabs

Over the course of the festival, an installation including over 500 soldier crabs will spread over the Surfers Paradise beach as part of the contemporary installation designs by Clayton Blake. This incredible internationally acclaimed artist has also joined forces this year with Courtenay McCue to present eight huge tentacles positioned at Cavill Mall, telling the story of fairy tale creatures on the streets of Surfers Paradise.

The Artist Plaza

Cavill Mall hosts The Artist Plaza over the span of the festival, with an array of artworks from new artists right through to established artists in line with the SandSafari theme. You can take selfies with the mirror from Snow White, find Jack climbing his beanstalk, sit in for the Mad Hatter’s tea party, and so much more!

Mayor’s Christmas Carols

No need to travel far to experience absolutely incredible Christmas Carols with the Broadwater Parklands offering up what is considered the Gold Coast’s premier Christmas event at your doorstep – The Mayor’s Christmas Carols. On Saturday the 7th of December you can get into the holiday spirit with a host of fun Christmas themed kids activities from 2pm, and the exciting main show kicking off at 5pm.

This is a free family friendly event, with all of your favourite Christmas carols, live entertainment, a meet and greet with Santa, the Allstars Christmas Countdown Show, and The Grinch Live Show. There will be food vendors on site so you can choose from an array of mouthwatering dishes to enjoy on the evening.

New Years Eve at the Southport Yacht Club

Welcome 2020 with some serious waterfront style with an evening at the Southport Yacht Club overlooking the tranquil Broadwater. Shannon Noll

Singer-songwriter Shannon Noll celebrates over 15 years in the music industry, including as part of the first season of the Australian Idol competition, where he was the runner up to Guy Sebastian. He continued to grow in his career in the years that followed, achieving ten consecutive top ten singles, and several top ten albums.

With highlights from his career including touring with Bryan Adams and recently placing as runner up on ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ This charismatic character is performing live on Friday the 18th of October Shannon Noll is coming to the Parkwood Tavern to perform a variety of songs from throughout his career as well as new tracks from his most recently released album ‘Unbroken’.

With hit singles such as ‘What About Me?’, ‘Drive’, and ‘Learn to Fly’ from his 2004 album ‘That’s What I’m Talking About’, you’ll be hard-pressed to prevent yourself from singing along. These oldies are without a doubt goodies. His second album ‘Lift’ debuted at number one on the ARIA charts, and produced hits such as the highest-selling single ‘Shine’.

The Big Wedgie

Is water play is right up your alley, you won’t want to miss ‘The Big Wedgie’ presented by 102.9 Hot Tomato. Imagine giant inflatable water slides ready and waiting for you and your family every day over the school holidays at the Broadwater Parkland on Marine Parade in Labrador. So what’s so special about these slides?

There are four for you to experience. First is ‘The Big Wedgie’ which is the world’s largest and most exhilarating inflatable water slide, over 18 metres tall and 82 metres long and with a heart stopping 55 degree slide slope.

Next up is ‘The Big Chucka’ which is the ultimate for adrenaline junkies, with a terrifying 80 degree slide that hurtles you up to 9m into the air and then catches you on a big inflatable landing pad. Ever wished you could fly? This gets you pretty close.

Third in line is the ‘Just Right Wedgie’ that’s just perfect for kids 3 years old and up, with just the right amount of speed and fun for kids to enjoy. Lastly there’s ‘The Little Wedgie’ which is a miniature version of ‘The Big Wedgie’ and is made to suit little kids so they can safely slide and have fun too!

The slides are open from 9am to 5pm daily. There are a variety of ticket options from just one slide, multiple slides, 20 or 60 minute passes. Seaway Kayaking Tours

Just a few minutes from our holiday apartments you can find Seaway Kayaking Tours along Marine Parade. Operating a variety of experiences on the water from kayaking to snorkelling, stand up paddleboard (SUP), learning to surf, and water bike tours. The water is the ultimate playground when you book an experience with these guys.

Jet Ski Safaris

If adrenaline is just your cup of tea, you’ll want to stop by Jet Ski Safaris. Choose from a range of courses from 30 minutes to 2.5 hours. The shorter circuits are perfect for first timers, and instructors are there to guide you through every fun filled minute.

You can also choose from the guided jet ski tours that take you through the Gold Coast waterways from Main Beach and up to South Stradbroke Island, Tipplers, and Couran Cove. No licence is required, and no experience is necessary. See the Gold Coast from a whole different perspective this Spring.

Flyboard and Parasail on the Gold Coast

Strap a flyboard onto your feet, and fly through the air propelled by water! Learn how to fly, dive, and hover above the water on the Gold Coasts only flyboard experience with Gold Coast Watersports. This exciting water sport experience comes with a lesson by a qualified instructor who can guide you through how to make the most of your time on the flyboard and handle it like a pro!

These guys also offer up parasailing as another water adventure option. Jump on board the dedicated parasailing boat and enjoy being entertained by the charismatic crew ad you make your way out to the fly zone. Get strapped into the parachute and gently and safely lift into the air. Take in the 360 degree views as you glide along the Broadwater. Go solo or tandem, plus this activity is family friendly with children aged over 8 years old able to take part.

GC Aqua Park

From September onwards GC Water Park is back in action! Located just offshore from the Broadwater Parklands, this is a family water adventure not to be missed. A giant inflatable obstacle course with huge slides! Climb, swim, jump, and race to be the first to complete the course! Lifejackets are provided, and it’s recommended that kids under 10 are accompanied by a parent.

The water park is located near the general enclosed swimming area, so families with small children can split up. Splash, build sandcastles, soak up the sun, and enjoy yourself with the little ones, while the other adult and the older kids wear themselves out on the inflatable course. There’s plenty of spots to enjoy a picnic in the surrounding parklands afterwards.

Charis Seafoods boasts the largest supply of fresh seafood on the Gold Coast. Stock up on fresh produce from the acclaimed Seafood Market, or enjoy a meal on-site. You can pull up a picnic blanket and enjoy the pelican feeding which takes place at 1:30pm daily. Wave Break Island

Wave Break Island is a popular spot for day visits, located just across the Broadwater from our holiday apartments. One of the biggest draw cards is the spectacular marine life for view by snorkelers and beginner or seasoned scuba divers alike. You can book guided snorkelling tours or dives with the Gold Coast Dive Centre and find out for yourself why divers keep coming back to Wave Break Island.

Broadwater Parklands

Families can’t get enough of the Broadwater Parklands. The ultimate playground, with stretches of green grass that the kids can run free on, scooter and bike tracks, playgrounds as far as the eye can see, a giant kids bounce zone, and the man made rock pools perfect for splash play.

Featuring 6 heated pools, dive training facility, and fitness centre. The centre offers a range of fitness classes from water aerobics to deep water running.

The aligning eatery Cafe Catalina is the perfect place to recharge with an array of mouthwatering tapas, modern Australian mains, and delicious cocktails to be enjoyed. Their Sunday sessions are a wonderful way to enjoy a drink or two while enjoying live music and taking in the view.

Visit the world’s first hologram arcade

If you have a child who loves video games, he/she would love to visit the first hologram arcade in the world and experience it!

The Holoverse has various rooms which feature different experiences. Take note, the user will be wearing glasses and a belt to help them see the holograms in the room. This means that only one person can experience it at a time. But parents are welcome to accompany their child for support at no extra cost.

Besides this, Holoverse has a new addition called the Hologram Arcade Table. Unlike the previous experience, this new entertainment device is designed for two people. They can play together or battle each other.

Spend a lovely day at movie studio theme park

If your kids are fans of Looney Tunes characters, then Warner Bros. Movie World will give them the best experience ever. The park has several character family rides such as Looney Tunes Carousel, Road Runner Rollercoaster, Speedy Gonzales’ Tijuana Taxis, Sylvester’s Pounce ‘n’ Bounce, Sylvester & Tweety Cages and Yosemite Sam Railroad. All these offer a mild thrill level.

Besides these, there are two other family-friendly rides. First is the Junior Driving School. The little ones can drive around the theme park’s miniature version. Second is called the Justice League 3D – The Ride. This is a 3D interactive ride where riders can join the DC superheroes in protecting the planet. Riders simply need to grab their laser blaster and shoot the enemies.

Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster Next Generation

Though Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster Next Generation offers a moderate thrill, you can expect that this fully indoor ride is equipped with all the excitement. There is special effects, projections, and lasers; not to mention, the carriage that moves forward and backward matching the scenario. The special effects can be quite intense for children and some adults so there is an age and height restrictions. Kids age 6 or has a height of 110cm must be accompanied by an adult.

Wild West Falls Adventure Ride

Ready to visit the Wild West Falls? Simply take a thrilling boat ride complete with spills and water action through Rio Bravo. Then get ready for a steep drop as you go way, way down the river. The Wild West Falls Adventure Ride is suitable for children but must be between 95 cm to 120 cm tall and accompanied by an adult.

Now for the maximum thrill rides!

DC Rivals HyperCoaster

How does the tallest, longest and fastest hypercoaster sound? DC Rivals HyperCoaster is the Southern Hemisphere’s ultimate ride with a 1.4-kilometre track. And if you are up for it, this ride also offers a Ride It Backwards experience. The minimum age for this ride is 7 years and a minimum height of 130 cm.

Green Lantern Coaster

How about riding a coaster with the steepest inverted drops? This ride has 48 metres track length and a speed of up to 66km/h. If you are ready for that, go ride the Green Lantern Coaster. Take note, riders must be 140 cm tall.

BATWING Spaceshot

Do you enjoy those drop tower rides? Then you will enjoy BATWING Spaceshot’s bungee-like bounces as the ride shoots you up 60 metres into the air at a speed of 72 km/h. Minimum height to ride this is 123 cm.

SUPERMAN Escape

For extreme vertical climb and high speeds of 100 km/h in two seconds complete with special effects, the SUPERMAN Escape can give you that thrill. To ride the SUPERMAN Escape, riders must be between 140 cm – 196 cm tall only.

Doomsday Destroyer

Have you tried a suspended twin hammer ride? The Doomsday Destroyer is a 21-metre high looping ride. It’s also quite fast complete with intense special effects. This is only for riders between 130 cm – 200 cm tall.

Arkham Asylum

Are you ready for a full inversion and suspended looping coaster? The Arkham Asylum will surely give your stomach an unusual feeling as the coaster loops at the speed of 85km/h. This ride is only for people between 140 cm – 200 cm tall. If you plan on seating on the first four rows, the minimum height is 155 cm.
